school nurses
School Nurse, Carolyn Salzano (covering Sturminster Newton and Shaftesbury Schools) and School Staff Nurse Ali Charles (covering Gillingham Schools) provide health and support to school-age children and their parents and services they need throughout their school lives. Our main concern is the health and well being of school-aged children.
The services and specialist clinics we offer include:
- Health promotion and education in schools,
- Health assessment of all children when they start school in Reception year,
- Help and support with emotional and physical needs,
- School drop-in sessions,
- Home visits,
- Information and advice,
- Parenting advice,
- Training to staff in schools e.g. using Epipens, children with diabetes/epilepsy,
- Child Protection,
- Liason and referral to other agencies,
- Sexual Health and contraceptive advice,
- Bed-wetting (enuresis) clinics,
- Audiology (hearing) clinics.
We both run regular bed-wetting clinics for children from the age of 7 years and hearing clinics that parents, teachers and GP’s can refer children to if they have any concerns about a child’s hearing.
We can provide advice and support over the phone for parents or arrange a home visit if that is more suitable.
